An Update - Thank God

Last January I had a post where I ran through a list of several things I wanted to blog about. One of those items was about the Bike Path Rapist, who had been looming over the Buffalo area since the early 90s, raping and murdering women who ran along area bike paths. Back in January, the police made an arrest. Follow-up investigations lead to the release of a man Anthony Capozzi who had spent 20 years in prison after being convicted of rapes now connected to the man arrested as the Bike Path Rapist by DNA evidence. Mr Capozzi was released from prison.

According to this article in the Buffalo News, Altemio Sanchez, has confessed to three murders connected to the Bike Path Rapist: Linda Yalem (who has a memorial run named for her) 1990, Majane Mazur 1992, and Joan Diver 2006. It was Joan Diver's murder that allowed the police to find Sanchez. According to the article, Sanchez's lawyer wanted him to plead insanity, but Sanchez refused. For that I am grateful. Sentencing is going to be in August and he faces a possible 75 years to life. He is 48 years old.

He has saved the county several hundred thousand dollars and provided closure to the families of those three women.
